Mindful Occupational Therapy Practice

Description

My name is Natalie Hewett & I’m an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist and a Mindfulness Practitioner & Coach (with an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches).
I bring 27 years of NHS clinical experience as a Specialist Mental Health Occupational Therapist & in more recent years, integrating this with Mindfulness-Based Intervention and supportive self-management programmes for people living with chronic pain, fatigue & chronic stress.
In 2024, I began building the foundations for my Mindful Occupational Therapy Practice, where I now deliver personalised online therapy, encompassing a creative integration of occupational therapy & mindfulness-based approaches, supported through mindfulness-based coaching.
I offer individualised programmes to support mental health management (primarily people experiencing challenges of low mood, anxiety & chronic stress), chronic pain & fatigue management, and programmes supporting mental, physical & emotional wellbeing (particularly associated with the challenges of burnout and emotional overwhelm).
My therapy is underpinned by an intention & passion for creating a supportive, therapeutic space for us both to learn & understand more about you – your patterns of thinking, feelings, behaviour, motivations, drives, aspirations, the impact of your health & wellbeing challenges, the barriers to wellbeing that you face.
Through this exploration, our sessions can begin to uncover a rich understanding of your unique way of engaging, relating & connecting with daily life & the world around you. From here, we can begin the first steps of your therapeutic journey towards living more fully & towards ownership of your life…..
To enhance this process, we explore your life through the lens of occupation, through a broad lens of daily occupations that can make up your daily rhythms – this can encompass such a broad array of roles, routines, habits, responsibilities, activities, interests, demands, rest, relaxation, sleep patterns…….both unique and personal to you, in how you might want to live your life, the values you wish to ascribe to, what gives you meaning and purpose, and any meaningful occupations that may already make up your day.

In today’s hectic world, it might be fair to say that many of us are juggling our daily occupations as best we can, showing up to the world & those around us as best we can. Maybe we could do with bringing a little more balance & meaning to our daily occupations, but, you know, we’re doing ok….
Yet, for some of us, engagement in our daily occupations can start to become a little more fragmented – where we might be living our lives more on automatic, a sense of ‘going through the motions’, feeling more depleted in energy as we try to keep up, pushing through our day a little more & likely having to let go of our more nourishing, meaningful occupations, feeling our sense of wellbeing being gradually eroded yet not knowing where & how we might build in shifts towards re-balancing this…..
For others, engagement in daily occupations can be more heavily disrupted through the challenges of living with fatigue or chronic pain, the impact of low mood, anxiety & chronic stress, or maybe feeling the impact of overwhelm, edging a little closer towards burnout, yet not quite aware of this….. here, our engagement in meaningful occupations through our daily lives can be seriously diminished, greatly impacting on our overall quality of life and wellbeing.

My personalised therapeutic interventions can support you whether you’re living with the impact of significant health challenges or challenges to your overall wellbeing. The integrated programmes I deliver offer a range of interventions such as lifestyle management & supporting lifestyle change; self-management; mindfulness-based intervention & mindful therapy; mindfulness for daily life; supporting behaviour change & changing habits; supporting readiness for change; psycho-education; emotional regulation practices & strategies.
Throughout my sessions, there’s a gentle weaving of self-empowering sentiment, a gentle intention for building confidence for embracing your own path, re-creating meaning in your daily life, enabling a sense of hope for living life more fully & in greater synchronicity with your values and your life in general.
